LGalt MacDermot’s “Hair” is a groundbreaking rock musical that emerged during the cultural upheavals of the 1960s. Set against the backdrop of the sexual revolution, anti-Vietnam War protests, and the exploration of countercultural lifestyles, the play follows a tribe of politically and socially engaged young people in New York City. The narrative revolves around Claude, Berger, and Sheila as they navigate the challenges of identity, love, and rebellion. The show is known for its vibrant score, which includes iconic songs like “Aquarius” and “Let the Sunshine In.” “Hair” explores themes of freedom, self-expression, and resistance, marking a seminal moment in musical theater history for its candid portrayal of the era’s societal and political turmoil.
