“The Snow Queen” is a fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen. The story follows the adventures of two friends, Gerda and Kai. One day, an evil troll named the Snow Queen creates a magical mirror that distorts the beauty in everything it reflects and shatters into countless pieces. When a shard of the mirror enters Kai’s eye and heart, he becomes cold-hearted and is eventually kidnapped by the Snow Queen.
Distraught over Kai’s disappearance, Gerda embarks on a perilous journey to find him. Along the way, she encounters various characters who help and hinder her progress, including a friendly crow and a wise woman. Gerda’s enduring love and determination eventually lead her to the Snow Queen’s palace, where she confronts the queen and rescues Kai from his icy prison.
The tale explores themes of love, friendship, and the triumph of goodness over evil. It has inspired various adaptations in literature, theater, and film, each capturing the enduring charm of Andersen’s classic fairy tale.
