Triad Stage set designers finalists in international contest

GREENSBORO — Triad Stage long has received praise for its stage designs from audiences and critics.
Now an international competition has taken notice.
Two of its scenic designers and their designs have been named as finalists in the World Stage Design 2017 Exhibition, to be held in Taipei next summer.
“Needless to say, we’re very proud and excited,” said Tiffany Albright, marketing manager for Triad Stage, the downtown professional theater.
Natalie Taylor Hart, assistant professor at Elon University, is a finalist in the Professional Designers Exhibition for her work on Triad Stage’s production of “Fences” in April of this year.
Josafath Reynoso, assistant professor at Southeast Missouri State University, will be featured in the Emerging Designers Exhibition for his work on “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” in September 2015.
Reynoso came to Triad Stage through the Southeastern Theatre Conference as a winner of the Ready-to-Work program.
Hart also designs shows at Elon, where she teaches and mentors student designers.
She called the announcement “a very happy surprise,” adding that she didn’t expect to be a finalist.
She noted that only 25 designs from the United States will compete at World Stage Design, and two are from Triad Stage.
“I’m excited to see a wonderful local professional theater like Triad Stage get attention on the international level,” Hart said via email.
World Stage Design is an event produced every four years, providing attendees and participants with an opportunity to experience the best in theater design, performances, workshops, seminars and exhibitions.
Since its launch in 2005, World Stage Design has attracted thousands of visitors and participants from across the globe.
Hart said that she hopes to attend in 2017.
World Stage Design 2017 will exhibit jury-selected work from the 120 professional designers and 60 emerging designers from 36 countries.
The 2017 awards will be announced there on July 5.
